At a meeting of the Corporation in the Council Chamber, it has been resolved that a
Voluntary Contribution for the Defence of the Country is highly necessary:--In
consequence, whereof, and at the request of several Gentlemen in the neighbourhood,
Banks are open to receive Subscriptions of the Town, and its Vicinity, at the Office of
the Town Clerk.

A General Meeting is requested in the Townhall on Tuesday next, the 27 instant at
eleven o’clock.

BERKSHIRE PROVISIONAL CAVALRY
In Obedience to His Majesty’s Commands signified to the Lord Lieutenant, and in
pursuance of the Resolution of a General Meeting of the Deputy Lieutenants and
Justices assembled at Reading, the fifth day of March, 1798, MUSTERS of all
persons enrolled to serve in the said Cavalry, will be taken in their several
Subdivisions, at the following places, and on the following days, at nine o’clock in the
forenoon, viz.
