The following memorial is being signed in Reading, praying that the “Royal Buck
Hounds” may be abolished, and the funds devoted to their support, may be otherwise
                   applied:--

To Her Most Gracious Majesty QUEEN VICTORIA,
The memorial of the undersigned, your Majesty’s loyal subjects sheweth:-
That your Majesty’s Memorialists view with regret the State maintenance in your
Majesty’s name of a sport known as the “Queen’s Hunt,” in the course of which great
suffering is entailed upon the deer employed as quarry.
That the deer so hunted are practically domesticated animals having been reared and
                   tended in Windsor Park.
That your Majesty’s memorialists humbly regard the hunting of these animals as
cruel, and calculated to make the community unfeeling towards dumb creatures.
Your Majesty’s memorialists therefore most humbly pray that the hunt may cease to
receive your Majesty’s countenance, and that the funds devoted to its support may be
                   otherwise applied.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, it is understood, are taking the
                   subject into consideration.
