NEW LONDON ROAD POST OFFICE
The efforts of Councillor Chutter to secure increased postal facilities for the London
Road district have met with success, a sub-post office having been opened on
Monday, at the shop of Mr. Gale, grocer, at the Corner of London Road and Seaford
Road, for the sale of stamps, postal orders and money orders, also for old age
pensions, national savings and other business. This will undoubtedly prove a great
convenience to the residents in the immediate vicinity. A pillar-box has been erected
and telephone calls will also be taken.

FLYING CLUB’S CONCERT

Cheerio Concert Party gave a capital entertainment to a full house in the Town Hall
on Monday.

occasion, were of considerably heavier calibre than usual, and aroused memories of
war-time air raids.
CHANGE OF COMMAND
It was announced at the recent prize-giving of the local Territorials (“D” Company,
th
4 Royal Berks) that Captain and Brevet Major A.C. Hughes, T.D., would be
st
relinquishing command of the Company on October 31 , and that Lieut. S.G. Ford,
D.F.C., would assume command. It is satisfactory to note that the Company will again
be commanded by an officer with considerable local interests.

TOWN BAND
The Town Band made their usual monthly visit to the men’s meeting at St. Paul’s
School on Sunday, the assistant bandmaster, Mr. R. Milsom, conducting.
At a meeting of the band on Monday it was decided to purchase six more new
instruments if terms could be arranged with Messrs. Boosey and Co. This will put the
band instrumentally on a similar footing to other bands in the Reading district. Some
