The Wokingham Council recently agreed to sell their gas works to the company,
and the sum of about £35,000 will be paid by the company to the Corporation, and
this money will operate towards the relief of the rates.
An important clause has been inserted in the Bill that all employees at the
Wokingham works of two years’ standing and over will be retained on the same rates
of pay by the company. As far as the higher officials are concerned provision is made
in the Bill for their compensation if they do not continue in their posts. No difference
in price is expected.
