LOCAL IRONMONGER’S SUCCESS
Mr. E. Hole, assistant to Messrs. E.A. Hussey and Son, ironmongers, of the Market
Place, has been awarded the diploma of the Incorporated Ironmongers Federation. Mr.
Hole obtained a third place for the British Isles. The examination was very
comprehensive.
GAS WORKS EMPLOYEES’ OUTING
On Saturday the employees of the Corporation Gas Works held, with their friends,
their annual outing, travelling in a 20-seater motor-coach to Southsea. The party
included Mr. W.P.Tucker (manager), Mr. C.T. May (accountant), Mr. J. Liddiard and
Mr. G. Marshall. The party dined together at one of the Southsea Hotels. Some of the
members took a sea trip to Ryde (I.O.W.), while others preferred the attractions of
beach and pier.
UNUSUAL MOTOR ACCIDENT
On Saturday night, about 10 p.m., Mr. Edwin O. Capon, of “Charfield,” Sonning,
who was accompanied by his wife, was driving down Shute End, in the direction of
Reading, when he saw a man and girl lying on the road in front of his car, with the
man’s motor-cycle a little distance off. Putting on his brakes to avoid running over
them, Mr. Capon’s car skidded, and became jammed between the lamp-post and the
iron railings of St. Paul’s School playground. The car sustained considerable damage
to its wings, windscreen and running board. The police, on being called to the spot,
found the car jammed between the lamp-post and the school railings, which were
much damaged. There were skid marks on the road, which was damp form recent rain.
The motor-cyclist and the girl had left the spot. They had not given their names and
addresses.

SUCCESSFUL SALE
Messrs Cottrell and Butler were successful at their sale on Tuesday last in disposing
of the whole of the properties of Mr. John Frith, deceased, and also of the land in
Easthampstead Road and Seaford Road, Wokingham.
ACCIDENT
Mr. Edwin O. Capon, of “Charfield,” Sonning, writes in regard to the accident in

which he was involved on June 1 at Shute End, that the driver of the motor-cycle,
Mr. P. Mills, of Windlesham, gave his name and address when asked. Mr. Mills
assured him that neither he nor his passenger were injured, and did not leave the scene
until he had satisfied himself that neither Mr. Capon nor his wife were injured.
