their annual outing, travelling in a 20-seater motor-coach to Southsea. The party

                                            UNUSUAL MOTOR ACCIDENT
On Saturday night, about 10 p.m., Mr. Edwin O. Capon, of “Charfield,” Sonning,
who was accompanied by his wife, was driving down Shute End, in the direction of
Reading, when he saw a man and girl lying on the road in front of his car, with the
man’s motor-cycle a little distance off. Putting on his brakes to avoid running over
them, Mr. Capon’s car skidded, and became jammed between the lamp-post and the
iron railings of St. Paul’s School playground. The car sustained considerable damage
to its wings, windscreen and running board. The police, on being called to the spot,
found the car jammed between the lamp-post and the school railings, which were
much damaged. There were skid marks on the road, which was damp form recent rain.
The motor-cyclist and the girl had left the spot. They had not given their names and
                   addresses.
