The Bishop then instituted the new rector in the accustomed form.
                      The rector, accompanied by the Bishop, the Archdeacon, the Rural Dean and the
                   churchwardens,  proceeded  to  the  church  door,  where,  the  mandate  of  induction  in
                   hand, the Archdeacon performed the induction, after which the usual ceremonies were
                   n followed an address by the Bishop, from the pulpit, followed by a closing hymn.
                                                 List of civic dignitaries
                      Following  the  service,  a  large  number  of  parishioners  assembled  at  the  Parish
                   Room, where tea had been prepared by the social committee of the parochial council,
                   to meet the Bishop, the new rector and Lady Mountmorres.
                      Peals were rung from the belfry, both before and after, the service.

                                 THE MAYOR OF WOKINGHAM’S DISTRESS FUND
                      Although little money remains in the above fund, the committee is still assisting a
                   number of local cases. A dance, organised by the dance committee, of which Mr. Alan

                   Perkins is the hon. secretary, will be held at the Drill Hall on Monday, February 18 .
                   Donations, large and small towards the fund, will be gratefully acknowledged by the
                   Mayor.

                                                 THE 1935 CARNIVAL
                      A well-attended public meeting to consider the question of a carnival this year was
                   held  at  the  Town  Hall,  Wokingham,  on  Friday  last  week,  the  Deputy  Mayor,
                   Alderman  A.E.  Priest,  occupying  the  chair  pro  tem.  The  chairman  expressed  his
                   pleasure at the representative attendance. It was unanimously decided that a carnival
                   be  held,  and  thereupon,  the  Mayor,  Councillor  Dr.  H.  F.  Curl,  was  elected  the
                   president, and chairman, and occupied the chair forthwith.
                      The  past  executive  committee  was  unanimously  re-elected  and  the  following
                   appointments  were  also  made:--Vice-president,  the  Deputy  Mayor;  hon.  treasurer,
                   councillor G. C. Wilson, and hon. secretary, Councillor D. Goddard.

                      Wednesday, September 11 , was the date fixed and the enthusiasm shown promised
                   well for the continued successes of the Wokingham Carnivals, which in the past have
                   produced £1,410 for the local charities.
                      The hon. secretary will be pleased to receive the names of those not present who are
                   willing to assist in any way.

                                        THE LAUNDRY COMPANY’S SOCIAL
                      The  annual  staff  social  of  the  Wokingham  Laundry  Company,  Ltd.  (Mr.  A.
                   Andrews,  managing  director),  was  held  on  Monday  evening  in  the  British  Legion
                   Hall, Station Road.
                      There  was  a  large  attendance,  and  among  those  present  were:-  Miss  Curl
                   (Mayoress),  Alderman  A.E.  Priest  (Deputy  Mayor),  Mrs.  Priest,  the  Rev.  R.F.
                   Guyton, Mrs. Guyton, Mr. Sidney Brown, Mr. and Mrs. J. Webb, Mr. G. Webb, Mrs.
                   C. Lunn, Mr. and Mrs. W. Lunn, Mr. and Mrs. Beasley (Maidenhead), Miss Jones,
                   Mr. and Mrs. Fidler, Mr. Miller, etc.
                      Mr. and Mrs. Andrews, with the members of their family, did all in their power, and
                   very successfully, to give them a most pleasant evening.
                      The  programme  included  community  games,  dancing,  songs  by  Miss  D.  Sale,
                   monologues by Mrs. Rolf, and recitations by little Eileen Beasley. Mrs Hare played
                   for dancing and Miss M. Webb acted as accompanist, and both were very efficient
