secretary and a great deal of work was put in by himself and numerous helpers.
The proceedings were opened by the Mayor, Dr. H.F. Curl, and the Rector, the Rev.
Viscount Mountmorres, who introduced His Worship, was supported on the platform
by the Mayoress (Miss Curl), Viscountess Mountmorres, the Misses Ellison (two) and

The Rector said the number of tickets sold this year was twice as many as before. It
was very kind of His Worship to come and open their fete, and he (the Rector) also

The Mayor expressed his great pleasure in coming to open the fete. It was the first
time he had ever opened the fete in his life. The fete was held in order to raise funds

Many in the parish had helped (Applause). He thanked the Misses Ellison for the loan
of their beautiful garden. The Mayor expressed his great personal interest in the baby
show. “Miss Benson,” he added, “is the best show producer since Barnum.”
(Laughter).

and also thanked the Misses Ellison and all the people who are supporting the fete.
