It  is  reported  that  gifts  received  up  to  Wednesday  amounted  to  £941  14s.
                   Approximately totals of savings have been reported as follows: County Girls’ School,
                   £1,528;  Palmer  Schools,  £702;  Forest    Road  area,  £1,571;  Earley  area,  £1,918;
                   Twyford area, £17,215; Farley Hill area, £6,510.

                                                   ROYAL VISITORS
                      Their Highnesses, Princess  Helena Victoria and Princess  Marie Louise, honoured
                   the Hon. Mrs. Corfield by visiting Tithe Barn on Tuesday and inspecting the work of
                   the  central  office,  shop  and  stores  in  connection  with  Hospital  Supply  Depots  in
                   Berkshire. Their Highnesses were very interested in all they saw. Those who work
                   with Mrs. Corfield were presented.

                                                   GIVE-TAKE SALE
                      A give-and-take sale was held on Wednesday, at Tithe Barn, by permission of the
                   Hon. Mrs. Corfield, O.B.E. The sum of £35 16s. was raised this being devoted to the
                   funds of the Moral Welfare Association.

                                               PROCEEDS OF RECITAL
                      The Royal Naval War Amenities Fund have acknowledged receipt of a cheque for
                   £40 15s.  7d. Forwarded by the Right Hon. Lord Caldecote C.B.E., the Lord Chief
                   Justice of England, the proceeds of a recital by Miss Jelly d’Aranyi at Wokingham.

                                            WOKINGHAM MAN MISSING
                      Mr. and Mrs. J. Ward, of 82, Oxford Road, Wokingham, received news on Monday
                   that the aircraft of which their son, Sgt.-Pilot Leslie A. Ward, R.A.F.V.R.. was pilot
                   failed  to  return  to  its  base.  Ward,  who  was  educated  at  the  Palmer  Schools  and
                   Ranelagh, was  a member of the Wokingham  Cricket  Club,  and played  football  for
                   both Wokingham and Embrook.

                                                   More Hood Victims
                                           Wokingham Man Lost In The Hood
                      Among  those  lost  in  H.M.S.  Hood  was  Anthony  B.J.  Bamford  (19),  of
                   Easthampstead  Road,  Wokingham.  Mr.  Bamford  was  educated  at  Palmer  School,
                   Wokingham, and then at Ranelagh School, Bracknell, having won a scholarship. He
                   joined  the  Royal  Navy  at  16;  was  trained  at  Portsmouth  on  the  St.  Vincent,
                   subsequently joining the Hood after brilliantly passing every examination. Becoming
                   an A.B. at 18 Mr. Bamford served in the Mediterranean and was present when units of
                   our Navy sank Italian warships in Taranto harbour. His father fought in these same
                   waters twenty years ago.

                                             DEATH OF EX-A.R.P. CHIEF
                      The death occurred on Sunday of Captain E. Hamilton-Bate, R.N. (retired), of 3,
                   Crescent  Road,  Wokingham.  Captain  Hamilton  Bate  was  A.R.P.  Controller  for  the
                   Borough of Wokingham in succession to Captain A.S.C. Trench, and he retired from
                   that  office  for  reasons  of  health  in  April  this  year.  At  the  meeting  of  Wokingham
                   Town Council on Thursday, the Mayor spoke of Captain Hamilton-Bate’s services for
