that  he  was  happiest  when  he  was  helping  others  for  he  gave  generously  to  all
                   deserving causes. His genial personality will be greatly missed by his many friends.
                      His  funeral  was  conducted  by  the  Rector,  the  Rev.  Gordon  Kenworthy  and  the
                   hymns, “How Sweet the name of Jesus sounds” and “Abide with Me” were sung and
                   Psalm XC. Mr. Arthur Yould presided at the organ.
                      On Sunday during the morning service the Rector spoke of the great interest for the
                   deceased showed in the parish, his kindness to those with whom he came into contact,
                   and expressed his sympathy of the congregation towards his relatives.
                      As the funeral cortege entered the Church the farm and shop staff lined the Church
                   path; these being Messrs. G. Hale, C. Marshall, S. Stanley, A. Stanley, L. Lawrence
                   G. Stroud, W. Lee.

                                                FRUIT PRESERVATION
                      Wokingham’s Fruit Preservation Centre opened on Friday evening at Wescott Road
                   School. The school will be open to receive fruit from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. every
                   Friday, and wholesale prices will be given for apples, plums, blackberries, etc., and
                   wild fruit.

                                                 FOR THE RED CROSS
                      Six  children—Madge  Roots,  Marjorie  Tilbury,  Christabel  Tilbury,  Annie  Martin,
                   Ruby Townsend and Joyce Townsend—have handed to the Mayor the sum of 10s.
                   they have collected.

                                                 WAR COMMENTARY
                      On Wednesday the first of a series of Ministry of Information War Commentaries
                   by Mr. Vivian Carter, was given at the Town Hall. The Mayor presided. Mr. Carter
                   said Hitler’s New Order was getting a little dog-eared now. Even his own followers
                   were beginning to get a little dubious of its worth. Germans were beginning to ask
                   when the New Order was coming.

                                                 NATIONAL SAVINGS
                      The amount of National Savings raised during August was £17, 294. New groups
                   are being formed in the borough and in the rural district, and a house-to-house canvas
                   is being conducted in the borough. A further list of groups in the rural district, with

                      This film was shown at the Ritz Cinema last week and £70 was raised in aid of the
