DEATH OF MR. “CHUMMY” DEARLOVE
Whilst the Victory procession was in progress on Saturday, news was received that
Mr. F.J. Dearlove, more affectionately known as “Chummy,” had passed away at his
home at Denmark Street, Wokingham, and the band in the procession stopped playing
as they entered Denmark Street.
Mr. Dearlove, who was 76 years of age, was one of Wokingham’s best known and
most popular residents. He was noted, among other things, for his retentive memory
and he could keep people interested for hours with his stories of Wokingham during
his younger days.
A keen sportsman, he was captain of the Wokingham “Magpies” over 50 years ago.
He was also an ardent supporter of and player for the Wokingham Town F.C.
