shorter, the present size picture will be a thing of the past. New projectors are not
being fitted, but modifications will have to be made to the existing ones. Although
this new venture is expensive, the admission prices are to remain the same.
This coming week opens with “Timberjack” featuring Sterling Haden, Vera Ralston
and David Brian—a tale of the struggle between a ruthless timber baron and a young
lumberjack out to revenge his father’s death. Also showing is an American comedy,
“The Atomic Kid,” starring Mickey Rooney. At the end of the week Tony Curtis,
Gloria de Haven and Gene Nelson appear in “So This Is Paris,“--a technicolor musical
with a nautical air.

Mr. A.J. Butcher, of Peach Street, Wokingham, Cubmaster of the 1 Wokingham
(Mayor’s Own) Troop, was selected to be a section leader in the St. George’s Day
parade of Queen’s Scouts at Windsor on Sunday.
OLD FOLKS ENTERTAIN
The concert party of the Wokingham No.1 branch of the National Federation of Old
Age Pensioners went to Reading on Friday last week, when they entertained members
of the West Reading branch. On Monday afternoon they entertained patients at the
Wokingham Hospital.
YOUNG STAR AT GLEBELANDS
A well-known film star, 10 years-old Miss Mandy Miller, paid a visit to Glebelands,
the Cinematograph Trades Benevolent Fund country home, on Friday last week, and
presented a “deep freeze” refrigerator to the matron, Mrs. W. Marshall. The
refrigerator was the gift of Messrs. J. Lyons and Co. Ltd., who are to keep it stocked
with ice-creams.
SCOUT GROUP

For the 5 Wokingham Scout Group, 1954 was a successful year. This was made
clear at the Group’s annual meeting, held in the St. Paul’s Parish Room on
Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Mr. R.S. Davies, the Group Scoutmaster. Miss
J.M. Ellis, Cubmistress, reported on her section’s activities and said that many more
helpers were needed. Mr. G. Coleman spoke on the activities of the Junior Troop,
Senior Scouts and Rovers, and pointed out that Senior Scouts, though small in
numbers, had done well in helping to train the younger element. Mr. L.C. Bennett
presented the balance sheet, which showed the group to be in a sound financial
position. General Sir Frank Messervy, president of the local Boy Scouts’ Association,
congratulated all on their hard work during the year, and the meeting was also
addressed by Dr. S. Barrett, the recently-appointed District Commissioner.
ST. GEORGE’S DAY GATHERING
Glasses were raised to toast “England,” at the request of Air-Commodore R.H.S.
Spaight in the Wokingham Drill Hall on Saturday, when, for the second year running,
Mrs. V.M. Essame organised a Gt. George’s Day gathering. The Mayor (Cllr. R.H.
