SCHOOL’S OPEN DAY
The Holt School, Wokingham, was “open” to parents and friends of the staff and
pupils on Tuesday.
FIRE CALL
Wokingham firemen were called to a heath fire at the railway embankment at King’s
Bridge, Nine-Mile- Ride, on Tuesday evening.
PENSIONERS’ WHIST DRIVE
The Wokingham No.2 branch of the National Federation of Old Age Pensioners
held a whist drive in St. Paul’s Parish Room on Wednesday.
SALVATION ARMY
The Salvation Army week-end meetings in Wokingham were conducted by Envoy
and Mrs. Morrish, and their two sons, from Teddington.
FLAG COMPETITION

Led by Patrol Leader John Kitchen, members of the 1 Wokingham (Mayor’s Own)
Scout Group took part in the County Flag competition on Saturday. As last year, they
were placed fifth.
ORGAN RENOVATED
The assembly of the renovated organ for the Baptist Church is expected to be started

this month, and the provisional date for its dedication is September 14 .
VISITOR’S “THANK YOU”
In a letter to his hosts, Herr Hans Joachim Kolach, who recently brought a party of
children from Braunlage, Germany, to stay with children of St. Crispin’s School,
Wokingham, says: “Thank you very much for the wonderful time we had. I don’t
think any one of us will be able to forget our stay with you.”
CRICKET
On Saturday, Wokingham Senior Sports and Social Club visited the Royal
Merchant Navy School, at Bearwood and won by three runs, the scores being 58—55.
Riddell and Edgington (25 and 20 respectively) were Wokingham’s top scorers. Jones
(27) was top scorer for the School. Cheal took 8 wickets for 18 runs; for the Club
Riddell took 3 for 18, Readings 2 for 19, Dance 2 for 3, and Edgington 3 for 9.
GERMAN VISITORS
Arriving in Wokingham tomorrow (Sunday) are 20 young Germans who are taking
part in the annual exchange visit between the borough and Bad Gandersheim,
Germany. On Monday, after they have had a chance to settle down in English homes
